That morning, from Le Moulin du Bel Air campsite, nestled between the Lot Valley and the Dordogne Valley, we set off with a very special excitement. Anne, Thibaud and our loyal companion Milord were heading to one of the most beautiful villages in France: Rocamadour.
Just a short drive from our campsite in the Lot, the road winds through landscapes typical of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park. Limestone cliffs, oak forests and breathtaking views over the Alzou Valley already hint at the magic to come.

Rocamadour, a medieval jewel clinging to the cliff.
As we arrived in Rocamadour, the scenery took our breath away. The medieval village seems literally carved into the cliff, towering over the valley below. Milord, nose in the air, clearly sensed that this would be no ordinary walk. Every cobbled street tells a story, every stone whispers centuries of pilgrimage and legend.
The religious sanctuary of Rocamadour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We began our visit in the religious sanctuary, the symbolic heart of Rocamadour. Climbing the steps is a moment apart, almost timeless. Anne moved slowly, admiring every architectural detail, while Thibaud captured the golden light reflecting off the ancient walls.
The Basilica of Saint-Sauveur and the Sanctuary of Rocamadour
The Basilica of Saint-Sauveur, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inspires deep respect. Inside, the silence is profound, broken only by soft footsteps. Even Milord seemed unusually calm, as if aware of the spiritual atmosphere of the place.
A gourmet break as we like them.
And, of course, it’s impossible to end the visit without tasting the local specialties on the menu: foie gras, duck confit and a glass of Cahors for adults, and simple dishes for children. What we love about these kinds of moments is sharing a meal that tastes like our region while enjoying a view that, frankly, is worth gold.
Strolling and tasting local flavours of the Lot
After the visit, we wandered through the charming streets lined with artisan shops and local products. It is impossible to leave Rocamadour without mentioning its famous PDO Rocamadour cheese, a true symbol of the Lot and the Dordogne Valley. Milord, of course, conducted a very serious investigation at every corner, convinced that a taste was surely meant for him.
Exceptional panoramic views over the Alzou Valley
Later on, we headed to the heights to admire the view. From up there, the panorama over Rocamadour and the valley is simply spectacular. It’s the kind of landscape that makes you slow down, breathe deeply and truly savour the moment.
Stay at Le Moulin du Bel Air campsite to discover Rocamadour
On the way back to our campsite in the Lot, we reflected on this intense and inspiring day. Milord had already fallen fast asleep on the seat — undeniable proof that Rocamadour is a destination officially approved by dogs ?.
Staying at Le Moulin du Bel Air means enjoying an exceptional location, close to Rocamadour, Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac and the most beautiful sites of the Dordogne Valley.
Whether you are travelling as a couple, with family or with your dog, the Lot is an ideal destination for holidays combining nature, heritage and gastronomy. And after a full day of discovery, there is nothing better than returning to the peaceful atmosphere of the campsite, the gentle sound of the river and the friendly spirit of Le Moulin du Bel Air.
Rocamadour, an experience to live during your holidays in the Lot
Rocamadour is not just a place to visit, it is an emotion to be lived. An experience we will be delighted to help you discover during your next stay at our campsite, in the heart of the Lot and the Dordogne Valley. And we promise, Milord will be more than happy to share his favourite dog-friendly walks with your four-legged companions ?
